Identified User Group
In this project, my goal was to design the living space for an Indian couple living in Canterbury Court. I analyzed their health, preferences, and routines. This information was the basis for the subsequent design to showcase their personal characteristics.
Residential Design Goals
This couple has very different habits and preferences. After analyzing the couple's needs and preferences, I combined them with the requirements of aging design. I designed these design goals in order to provide a comfortable living environment for the couple and to ensure their safety.
Residential Design Concept
Circles are often found in Indian culture. The circle represents the notions of totality, wholeness, original perfection, the self, the infinite, eternity, timelessness, and all cyclic movement.
The couple lives in a close family; everyone in the family supports each other and shares their lives and love. The relationship between family members is like a circle, a close and supportive whole.
Residential Floor Plan
The family is very close. The lady often cooks for the whole family, so I designed a large area for the kitchen and dining room. Here they can enjoy family time. For the privacy of the residents, I set the bedroom at the end of the flow. The gentleman's reading space is open and he can enjoy the view from the balcony.
Finishes and FF&E Selections
During the communication with the client's family members, I learned that they are very proud of their culture and are very interested in learning about other cultures. In order to create a sense of home for them in a foreign country, I decided to design a space for them with an Indian style combined with modernism. I chose the warm colors and woods that are common in Indian culture combined with modern lighting and furniture.
COMMON AREA DESIGN PROCESS
Common Area Design Goals
Canterbury Court wants seniors to enjoy their lives and they offer a variety of activities to enrich the lives of all residents. The role of the common space is to provide a social space for the residents. The design of the space also takes into account the needs of the caregivers in order to ensure the safety of the residents.
Residential design goals
Canterbury Court connects nature with life, independent individuals with community, and seniors' free time with a life of leisure and enjoyment.
Connection means that seniors are connected to a new and vibrant life. They become more independent and embrace new life with enthusiasm.
Common Area Floor Plan
Canterbury Court has a wide range of activities for its residents, and after analyzing all of them I decided to design the floor plan by the noise level. All activities that require a quiet environment were placed on the right side, so that they would not be disturbed.
